If Microsoft Got In Trouble, So Should Apple
Before I begin this blog entry, let me say categorically that I have no love for Palm. They squandered their market lead in the PDA field, and wasted the talent they bought then they purchased Be.
I read this article today, and it brought me back to when companies started claiming that Microsoft used it's market position to squash competitors' software on Windows. And now Apple is doing it. From my point of view, this is another clear example of bad business practices, and if the US Department of Justice intervened and told Microsoft to smarten up (as they did previously with IBM, too) then precedent is that they must now come after Apple for this.
And I would agree with them if they did. Their handling of Psystar was detestable (only remaining below the DOJ's radar because Mac OS X isn't a monopoly), but when it comes to iTunes, they are the clear market leader here, and they are without a doubt using their position to manipulate the market.
I always did feel that Steve Jobs was a (colourful expletive here) and that Steve Wozniak was the real genius behind Apple, and this recent behaviour of Apple clearly bears this out. Mr. Jobs - it's time you went!
