App Store a "Crapshoot" - And Still They Come
When an Apple "poster boy" (Steve Demeter) comes out saying Apple's App Store is "kind of a crapshoot", then there's a fairly clear indication of something seriously wrong. I've maintained this all the time - Apple's rules are peculiar and are enforced inconsistently.
This is the "Windows Syndrome" all over again. People and developers keep flocking to a crappy platform and a crappy environment because it is perceived to be the best and most popular. Soon, nobody is developing for anything else because "there's no market", but it is these self-same developers who essentially created the market to begin with.
The consumers are equally to blame here. How many times do you have to be fed hype before you stop swallowing it? Stop, think, and look at the reality. Having one single entity (be it Microsoft or Apple) dictating to you what you can and cannot do, and what you can and cannot purchase is complete insanity.
What really grinds me up is when people retort saying "vote with your money - don't buy their product'. Here's the thing - I'm not buying their products, but because 90% of the sheep are buying it, the competition has no chance for survival.
Until the vast majority wakes up to the reality, there's not really much a few solitary voices can do.
