Browser Usage Stats
In the past, whenever I've made the case for using a browser other than Internet Explorer, I often use browser market share to illustrate the steady decline of Internet Explorer - typically using sites like W3Schools and such. Admittedly, these should always be taken with a grain of salt, but the refuge for IE fanatics has always been "that's not real-world statistics".
Well, my insane little plebeians - I had the pleasure of installing Google Analytics on a very popular real-estate company on Vancouver Island, and it breaks down browsers quite nicely. Herewith are the real-world statistics (I've left off the extremely minor results):
- Internet Explorer - 42%
- Firefox - 22%
- Safari - 19%
- Chrome - 15%
Several things worth noting here:
- Opera is so minor, it falls even below "IE with Chrome Frame"
- Internet Explorer is nowhere near the 90% that Microsoft Zealots would have you believe
There - take this slice of "real-world" and cram it!
